I wonder…
January 8, 2007
The scene opens with a fade-in to an open dirt road with a new corn field on one side and probably nothing but old dirt on the other. The road goes on forever. Soon, an old truck will roll over one of the hills and then another hill and yet even another. The scene is so is so long it almost hurts. The camera cuts to the cab of the truck. The young man driving is dirty from working. After driving just a little ways, he stops the truck. After sitting there for a while, he gets out and looks at the road behind, and then the road ahead. He takes off his red flannel over shirt, puts his sunglasses onto the seat, and dusts off his jeans. He takes off. He’s just running. The camera cuts again to a steady position of him running away. Fade out. By the way, the film is silent. All you can hear is Brian Eno’s “An Ending (Ascent).
